Grandma Posey

When I think of Grandma Posey, I have a rush of childhood memories. As the only consistent babysitter for my two sisters and me, Grandma made it her mission to entertain us through endless rounds of Yahtzee, Shoots and Ladders, Go Fish, Rum, and of course, the ruthless, fit-inducing, relentless boardgame appropriately called SORRY!

These games often played out in Grandma's bedroom, while she sat on her bed and we huddled around the edges on much younger knees than we have today. She always made things fun and our nights were filled with laughter and love.

Holidays were also spent in the Posey household. Thanksgiving was a feast fit for royalty, and Christmas mornings were full of good cheer, but what I recall most of all are the Halloweens. Grandma and Grandpa Posey's house was the base of operations for tricks and treats. We would hit the neighborhood and clean up before returning for a special bag full of treats compiled by Grandma. And it was the same for many of our cousins. Before long, the same ritual was repeated with her grandchildren, then her great-grandchildren, and in the end, she was even able to meet her great-great-grandchildren.

Grandma Posey was gifted with unparalleled whistling abilities. She enjoyed singing and chocolate and she always welcomed a loved one in need, whether it be by giving them a place to stay or just a good meal. She was a woman of faith who practiced those beliefs by being charitable, and perhaps one of the kindest human beings who ever walked the Earth. And she was loved.

Rest in Peace, Grandma.
